Nothing complicated. This is how it works when you ask me to look at your vehicle.

Who you're dealing with

I'm Darren Lee, a sole trader trading as Darren Lee Automotive, based in Wareham, Dorset. I'm not VAT registered, so there's no VAT on what I charge.

This website

It's here to tell you what I do and how to reach me. I keep it accurate, but it isn't a price list and nothing on it is an offer — the job gets agreed between us, not by the website.

Getting in touch, and booking

Calling, emailing or filling in the form is an enquiry, not a booking. We've got a booking when I've said yes and we've agreed a time.

I work on the vehicle where it is, so I need to be able to get to it and work on it safely. Tell me where it is and what it's doing as best you can — the more accurate that is, the more likely I turn up with the right parts.

Quotes and the final bill

What I give you on the phone is a rough idea based on what you've told me. It isn't a fixed price, because I haven't seen the vehicle yet.

Once I've looked at it I'll tell you what it actually needs and what it'll cost. If the job turns out to be bigger than expected, I'll tell you before I carry on — you won't get a bill for work you didn't know about.

Paying

Cash or bank transfer, once the work's done. I don't take cards.

If your plans change

Just let me know as soon as you can and we'll sort something out.

Because I come to you rather than you coming to a garage, the law gives you 14 days to change your mind about work you've asked me to do. If you want me to start before those 14 days are up — which is usually the point of calling a mobile mechanic — just say so, and you can still cancel, but you'd pay for what I'd already done.

Your rights

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 I have to carry out work with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time, and any parts I supply have to be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. If I get something wrong, you're entitled to have it put right. Nothing on this page takes any of that away.

If you're not happy with something, tell me. I'd far rather hear about it and fix it.

What I'm responsible for

I'm responsible for loss or damage that's a foreseeable result of my getting something wrong. I'm not responsible for things outside that — for instance, an unrelated fault that was already there, or costs that couldn't reasonably have been expected.

Nothing here limits my responsibility for death or personal injury caused by my negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let me limit.

Which law applies

The law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales.
