The short version: I use your details to answer you and to do the work. Nothing else. This site sets no cookies and doesn't track you.
Who I am
I'm Darren Lee, a sole trader trading as Darren Lee Automotive, based in Wareham, Dorset. I'm the data controller for anything you send me.
The easiest way to reach me about any of this is to call 07989 307649 or email darrenleeautomotive@gmail.com.
What I collect
If you call, text or message me on WhatsApp, I get your telephone number, and whatever you tell me about you and the vehicle. Numbers of customers I've worked for stay in my phone.
If you email, I get your email address and whatever's in the message.
If you use the form on the contact page, I get your name, your telephone number and email address (you only need to leave one), the postcode or area the vehicle is in, your message, and — if you choose to fill them in — the make, model and registration. Those last two are optional and the form works without them.
If I do work for you, your name and contact details go on the invoice, along with the vehicle and what was done.
Why, and what allows me to
I use it to reply to you, to quote, to turn up at the right place, to do the job and to invoice for it. Under UK data protection law my lawful basis is performing a contract with you, or taking steps before one at your request. Keeping invoices afterwards is a legal obligation — HMRC requires it. Where I'm checking a form submission isn't spam, that's my legitimate interest in not being buried in junk.
I don't send marketing, I don't sell anything to anyone, and I don't profile you or make automated decisions about you.
Who else handles it
Running a website means a few companies handle information on my behalf. These are all of them:
- Cloudflare — hosts this site, so it sees the usual technical things any web server sees: your IP address, your browser type and which pages you asked for. It also runs the anti-spam check on the contact form, which is sent your IP address.
- Resend — sends me the email when you use the contact form, so it handles what you typed in it.
- Google — my email is Gmail, so anything you email me sits in an inbox Google runs.
- CARTO and OpenStreetMap — provide the map images on the home page and the areas page. Your browser fetches those pictures from CARTO directly, so CARTO sees your IP address.
All four are based in the United States, so your information is handled outside the UK. Each is used under its own data-processing terms.
How long I keep it
Invoices and job records: about six years, because HMRC requires records to be kept that long. Everything else — enquiries that didn't turn into a job, numbers in my phone, messages — isn't kept to any schedule. It stays until I clear it out, and I'll delete anything sooner if you ask me to.
Cookies, and what this site loads
This site sets no cookies at all, and stores nothing in your browser. There's no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.
Three pages fetch something from another company:
- The home page and the areas covered page load map images from CARTO.
- The contact page loads Cloudflare's anti-spam check, Turnstile. It doesn't set cookies and doesn't track you across websites, but it does look at your browser and your IP address to work out whether you're a person.
Everything else — the fonts, the pictures, the styling — is served from this site's own address, so no one else sees you asking for it.
The contact form
What you send goes straight to my email. It isn't saved in a database and this website keeps no copy. The form checks submissions with Cloudflare Turnstile and a hidden field that only automated junk fills in, and it won't accept anything posted from another website.
Your rights
You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, ask me to delete it, ask me to restrict what I do with it, ask for a copy in a portable form, or object to my using it. Just call or email — I'll sort it out, and there's no charge.
If you think I've got something wrong, tell me first and I'll try to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, which regulates this in the UK, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint (opens in a new tab).
Photographs
Some of the pictures on this site are from real jobs. I ask before taking them, and I don't publish anything that identifies a customer or where they live. Number plates are blurred.
